City Life
Theme of August
Children built a city from blocks, mapped it, met the people who keep it running and learned how to cross it safely. One theme, five weeks, every subject woven in.
From building a city out of blocks to stamping passports in Japan, Italy, Mexico and Egypt — here's a peek at what a term at HEI looks like, why we teach the way we do, what's coming up next, and how your family can join in.
A brief view of how our quarter was and how you can connect with us.

3 – 7 August
Circle time, paired games and a friendship craft to take home. Relationships come first in the first week of every term.
17 – 28 August
Traffic-police role play, a zebra-crossing walk, a road safety pledge and a "Wheels Museum" curated by the children themselves.

Every class went on an imaginary journey around the world — four weeks, four countries and a new hello each week.

2 & 3 September
Craft, story and a little dancing for Janmashtami — and the next day, the children had a few surprises for their teachers. Photos on Instagram
8 & 21 September
World Literacy Day — a reminder that DEAR time happens every day for a reason. Then a Peace Day craft and a conversation about kindness across countries.
Every HEI activity is designed to spark a question, not just finish a task — here's what that looks like, and one easy thing to try at home this week.
Wonder first, answers later
Sink-and-float boats, colour experiments, bubbles and a lemon-ink city. Children guess, test and look again.
Tools, not screens
Maps, sound-matching and music from around the world — technology as a window, used with a teacher beside them.
Build, test, rebuild
Roads, bridges and garages from loose parts; paper airplanes and origami. Things fall down, and that's the lesson.
Process over product
Skyline painting, vehicle printing, flags of the world and bubble art. No two pieces come out the same — on purpose.
Counting things that matter
Real objects, bundles of ten, patterns, and near/far, heavy/light. Maths you can hold.
Sounds, stories, hellos
Letter sounds through stories and songs, early blending, Hindi letters, and greetings in four languages in September.
The quiet routine
Every day at 11:40 the whole school stops to read — Drop Everything And Read.
Move every day
Yoga, obstacle courses, dance and the HEI pool. Movement is part of the curriculum, not a break from it.
The part of the curriculum you can't test — and the part families notice first.
The right to feel safe
Children learn about the UNCRC in their own words — the right to protection, a safe environment and "My Safe Bubble".
Small habits, every day
Greeting others kindly, listening when someone speaks, waiting for a turn and respecting public places — practised in circle time and on the road-safety walk alike.
Cooperation, sharing, care
Sharing, responsibility and caring for others and for public property — plus, in September, appreciating that people around the world eat, dress and speak differently.
